This photograph was taken in 1977 a coffin-shaped one-man tram following a 1934 double-decked Balloon car north towards Talbot Square and the North Pier.
Right: another Balloon and another year. Not sure which one but the Illuminations shown are from the same set and it's a different part of the Promenade! |

This Brush Car was given a special paint job for the 1976 Centenary of Blackpool Borough Council and for the following year was hastily converted to a tribute to the Silver Jubilee of the Queen.
Right: Twin-Car 680 was used extensively as a single tram during the 1970s. |

One of the old pre 1930s standard tramcars had been kept as a maintenance car and was regularly seen on the Promenade track out of season.
It also made the occasional trip during the summer if there were problems.
A generator allowed it to move about regardless of any lack of power due to problems with
the overhead line. The central working platform had two conducting poles
as it was impossible to swivel a single pole around to allow the tram to run the other way. |

One of the best places to see the collection of old trams is Fleetwood's Tram Sunday. Held every year in July, the main street of Fleetwood houses classic cars and buses whilst the trams trundle up and down all day between the ferry loop and the top of Lord Street. |
