Blackpool Buses in 1976

1976, Blackpool's Centenary year as a Borough. The fleet of single decked buses was due for replacement and whilst not being in any way a bus freak, I took a few photographs of the buses that would disappear.

This one is seen on the Promenade in front of the Tower, whilst the one below left is leaving the town centre along Caunce Street.

Below right is one of Ribble Buses' red single decked buses that serviced the longer routes and rural areas, leaving the Talbot Road Bus Station.

The replacement single decked buses had cream and green livery matching the tramcars and had a fierce automatic gear ratio which meant that drivers were unable to accelerate gently from a standing start.

After several accidents when passengers who hadn't made it to a seat before the bus set off were unceremoniously sent sprawling in the aisle the buses were all sent to be re-geared.
