Blackpool Illuminations

Ok, so why on earth would you want to take photos of the Illuminations in black and white??? Well, the simple answer is that at the time these photos were taken I was freelancing to local and national magazines. In the early 1980s magazines were starting to feature more colour than they had previously but they still mainly featured black and white photography.

This shot of the 1981 Illuminations was published in Lancashire Magazine in their photographic competition, winning first prize in 1982.

Right: the Penny Booth amusement arcade on the Golden Mile.

So many photographs have been published from this spot that it's a cliche almost. Heck - even I have had at least three separate photographs published that have been taken of the Tower and Promenade from this spot!
