| John Burke's Bispham Village |
Bispham started out as a tiny village - didn't all English towns...
In Bispham's case the small village that was certainly around at the beginning of the first Millenium has been swallowed up by the expansion of Blackpool and it now forms part of what is commonly referred to as "North Shore, Blackpool". |

The village centre stands about half a mile behind the cliffs where the Illuminations end. Red Bank Road leads away from the seafront down to the roundabout seen above and the village itself.
Few old buildings have survived. There are a couple of cottages on All Hallows Road and the Old England pub, seen right. |
The village centre has a number of shops and Bispham Chambers - office space mainly above the shops and seen left.
Right: Bispham Market, next door to the Old England, the indoor market has a number of stalls and a cafe at the rear that in the early 1980s was run by my Mum and Dad! |
Left: Moor Park Swimming Pool close to the village centre is still only a few years old. There is a large car park attached and as the name suugests, a park is close by.
Right: The Library stands in its own small gardens, nestling between Bispham Road and Devonshire Road as they come together at the village centre roundabout. |

Heading further inland from the village and turning up Ashfield Road there are a few ponds, teeming with wildlife and perilously close to Burke Towers!
On Ashfield Road itself is the main campus of Blackpool & The Fylde College, the "Fylde" being the name given to the larger area containing Lytham, St Annes and Blackpool and extending inland for several miles. |
