Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the early 1980s

In 1981 I was freelancing to various magazines and Blackpool always seemed to find something for me to photograph. A red filter for the black and white photos had a spectacular effect on the sky!

The photo of the Revolution was published first by Club Canon - a magazine published by the club for users of Canon cameras - and then by the magazine "Photography". I mirrored the image so that the sign "Big Dipper" could still be read even though it was on the other side facing away from me.

The Magic Mountain, a fairy grotto ride for children on the southern half of the park, seen here at night.

Right: the Casino Building and a Victorian tram shelter, restored and preserved as a small shopping booth.

More portable rides move onto the southern half of the Pleasure Beach, whilst a large swinging boat, the Tidal Wave suspends riders in mid air for a moment as the boat swings down before them.

The Fun House was a favourite of many visitors - not least because it offered hours of fun for a single admission price.

The Monorail snakes out of the station above Watson Road and makes its way through the southern half of the park..

Right: when the Revolution was built the radio controlled boats were moved down close to the loop.

The Tokaydo Express (left) whilst (right) the Cyclone takes its riders on its metallic track.
