As soon as a tiny strip of sand appears as the tide goes out, the tradesmen and
women of the beach hurry to secure their pitch, often risking wet feet to do so!
And of course as the tide comes in they will stay for as long as it is possible! |

The beach is seldom as crowded as it used to be, though this scene from 1981 shows that even in the days of other, more sophisticated attractions, a sunny day can still draw the crowds onto the sands.
A ride on the donkeys is normally a sedate walk one way and then a brisk trot on the way back. Sometimes the donkeys will trot as well... |

Sunbathers refuse to move until the very last minute and are in peril of something more substantial than a seagull can throw at them as the donkeys squeeze past, vacating the beach until the tide turns.
Even when the tide comes in some holiday makers are reluctant to leave the sea
and paddle happily from the slade when the sands disappear. |
